It is important to limit the amount of moisture that enters the pad to extend its life and prevent mildew growth as much as possible. However, it is nearly impossible to keep your pad 100% moisture-free!
When inflating your sleeping pad, condensation from your breath enters the pad and can build up if not properly ventilated or dried before storage.
Utilizing a pump sack like the Vortex pulls in outside air along with your breath, significantly decreasing the amount of moisture entering your pad. Pump sacks are typically designed to be held about 6 inches to 1 foot (or a full arm's length) away. Blowing air in from this distance encourages dry, moisture free air from around the environment to enter the Vortex (and therefore your pad), keeping it as dry as possible.
